The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has alleged that Income Tax Commissioner Uppuleti Devi Vara Prasad has violated the model code of conduct by visiting Pamarru constituency to campaign on behalf of his wife Uppuleti Kalpana, who is contesting the election as a YSR Congress candidate.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, TDP State general secretary and Pamarru in-charge Varla Ramaiah said that Mr. Vara Prasad was in talks with the industrialists, businessmen and Income Tax assesses, seeking the latter’s support for his wife. He was abusing his office to canvas on behalf of his wife. “It is a blatant violation of code of conduct. I request the officials concerned to take a notice of this and initiate necessary action immediately,” he said.

Complaint lodged

The TDP leader further said that Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana wrote a letter to the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) bringing the issue to his notice on March 11. The TDP also lodged a complaint with district Collector, SP, and Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal. The issue was also brought to the notice of Chief Income Tax Commissioner, he said. “Mr. Vara Prasad should be transferred to other States until elections are over and necessary action should be taken against him for the violation of code and service rules,” he said.
