The Tata Consultancy Services and the Ravindra College of Engineering for Women entered into a memorandum of understanding on the Tata Group's Affirmative Action programme on Saturday.

Vice-president and region head of the TCS V. Rajanna and college chairman G.V.M. Mohan Kumar inked the MoU at the college on the outskirts of Kurnool.

Affirmative Action (AA) is an initiative of the TCS to train SC/ST and economically backward class students to improve their employability by improving their business communication, programming and soft skills, aptitude and data interpretation, Mr. Rajanna told the media.

Students would be trained from the first semester of the third year, he added.

Mr. Mohan Kumar said the MoU would usher in a new era in building a relationship between the academia and industry. The MoU would result in enhancing the skills of the students, college principal K. Sateesh Kumar said.

Head of corporate affairs M. Giridhar Kumar termed it a milestone.
