Suzlon Energy Limited (SEL) announced a donation of Rs. 35 crore for an Energy University proposed to be established by the government at the upcoming Capital city of Amaravati.
SEL chairman Tulsi Tanti handed over a letter to that effect to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during an interaction with top honchos of Indian Wind Power Association and Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers’ Association here on Thursday.
The government (AP-Genco and AP-Transco) will give Rs. 50 crore to the university, which will concentrate on energy research besides imparting regular courses. Hero Group also announced donation of an undisclosed sum for the cause.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naidu stressed the need for greater research in the renewable energy sector to make solar and wind power affordable to the masses and bring down the level of pollution caused by burning of fossil fuels, particularly coal, by inventing new and efficient ways of tapping renewable energy.
The proposed university will be duly focused on research work, he said, and asked Varsha Joshi, Joint Secretary of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, to convey his request to Union Minister for Power Piyush Goyal to contribute a substantial sum to the varsity.
Earlier, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, Mr. Ajay Jain and other dignitaries released posters on Suryamitra Skill Development Programme which is aimed enhancing the skills of youth in solar energy sector. The first batch of training classes will begin at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur district on October 12.
