Suspected Maoist held

The Chintooru police have arrested Gundi Chalapathi, 34, a native of Chandrampalem village in Etapaka mandal, who joined the banned Maoist Party in 2014 and presently working as supply committee member and supplying diesel, electrical wire bundles and medicines to the Maoists.

Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni, at a press conference here, charged Chalapathi with transaction banned currency notes worth ₹25 lakh with the help of middlemen and handed over the valid currency to Maoists during the demonetisation period. He said that following a tip-off, the Etapaka police conducted a vehicle check at Kannayigudem on Wednesday evening and nabbed Chalapathi on suspicion.

“During the questioning, he confessed to his offence of working for the Moist Party and supplying the Maoists medicines and other commodities,” he said, while congratulating the Etapaka police for nabbing the accused. A case was registered and investigation was on.
