In support of the workers' march to Parliament held on Wednesday, employees' associations of Life Insurance Corporation of India, General Insurance Corporation, BSNL and Posts, medical representatives and others organised a meeting at LIC office in Arundelpet.

Addressing the gathering, district general secretary of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Y Netaji said that their main demand was to control the rising prices of essential commodities, particularly food articles.

He said that the overwhelming majority of the workers, including those in the unorganised sector, found their real incomes eroded by inflation. The exploitative systems of contracting and outsourcing should be abolished and the labour laws implemented strictly to save poor people from the scourge of runaway inflation.

LIC Employees' Union Divisional Joint Secretary VVK Suresh has alleged that the UPA government fast tracked the disinvestment process, which brought down the role of the public sector in national economy. He demanded that the insurance bills which were introduced in the Parliament recently should be withdrawn in the larger interests of economy.

Trade unions' leaders V Sambasiva Rao, Ch Kumar, Ch Enoch, Y.G. Murali Krishna, Bangaru Babu, K.J.S. Vijaya Kumar, B Markandeyulu, M Rajeswara Rao and others participated.
