Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC)on Sunday demanded that the State government must initiate measures for supplying at least 10 tmcft of water for the paddy farmers in the Krishna delta who are reeling under severe shortage of irrigation water this cropping season.

A team of Congress leaders, including PCC spokesperson Kolanukonda Shivaji, City Congress president Malladi Vishnu along with farmers’ union leaders visited a few villages in Kankipadu constituency and interacted with farmers.

“Nearly 3.5 lakh hectares are cultivated under Krishna delta, but this season due to scant supply of water, majority of farmers have not taken up farming. Those who took up sowing operations, are worried a lot as the paddy saplings are withering fast, said Mr. Shivaji.

The Government should take up the matter with Krishna River Board and Union Minister Uma Bharathi and get sanctions for release of 10 tmcft of water to rescue the delta farmers, he demanded.
