The organising committee of Sumadhura Kala Niketan on Friday felicitated popular stage artiste P.V.N. Krishna with the Senagala Kabir Das Memorial Award on the inaugural day of the three-day State-level humour playlet competitions at Tummalapallivari Kalakshetram here on Friday. The committee also honoured veteran artiste Ananda Hrudayaraj (Sivavani), who excelled as director, writer and moderator.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Sumadhura committee president Samanthapudi Narasaraju found fault with the Culture Department for conducting a meeting in Hyderabad recently without inviting artistes from Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. “It is sad.

The new government, instead of involving artistes from all 13 districts of A.P., is keen on honouring and listening to artistes from Hyderabad,” he said.

The programme, which was kick-started with a prayer song by Samanmita and Jyoshita, witnessed a traditional welcome dance by Ajay Kumar and party. The Nadaswara recital by Venkateswara Rao and party set the mood for the evening.

Three playlets - “Bhale Valle Veellu” (Pedakakani), “Srimadramana Govindo Hari” (Hyderabad) and “Bharyanaina Kakapothine” (Visakhapatnam) - were performed on the inaugural day. Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao, actor Raavi Kondala Rao, social worker Pathuri Sambasiva Rao, Sumadhura administrators M.C. Das, Dr. N. Murali Krishna and Vijaya Bhaskar Sarma were present.
