Sub-Collector S. Nagalakshmi exhorted the peopleto contribute their mite in conserving dwindling resources of fossil fuels and this would also help check the carbon footprint.
She observed that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change painted a grim picture of the implications of unbridled consumption of petroleum products and it was high time that the world’s population woke up to the dangers that were lurking in the near future.
She was addressing a programme organised by oil majors such as Indian Oil, Hindustan and Bharat Petroleum Corporations and Petroleum Conservation Research Association as part of the Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight here on Wednesday.
Ms. Nagalakshmi said citizens would do well to check their carbon footprint regularly and minimise the usage of finite sources of energy.
By judiciously using petrol and diesel, they would be bringing down the levels of pollution and at the same time, avoid the risk of running out of stock. Fossil fuels were already overexploited to cater to the ever increasing needs of the people.
Gas Authority of India Limited General Manager (Hyderabad) C. Satyanarayana said people no longer had the luxury of using the petroleum products beyond a limit as the sources were depleting fast.
While conserving the fuels, emission norms should be kept in mind to control pollution.
Global warming
“People have enjoyed enough with the resources available so far. It is time for them to realize their responsibility in conserving the fuels. In addition to achieving monetary savings, conservation helps in curbing the menace of pollution thereby reduces the intensity of global warming”, Mr. Satyanarayana asserted.
HPCL Chief Installation Manager (Vijayawada) K. Kishore, Senior Regional Manager G. Seetaramayya, IOC Deputy General Manager A.C. Ghosh, Chief Divisional Sales Manager (Retail) P. Kumaravel and BPCL Territory Manager (Retail) A. Sivarama Krishnan were present.
