Prospects of an exciting global career are still the main reasons for students to opt for overseas education, Arul Joseph, Head Global Education, Visu Academy Ltd said at a seminar, “Education Abroad” organised by The Hindu in association with Visu Academy Ltd held on the premises of Vignan University on Monday. Mr. Joseph said that the rate of students opting for Universities in United States of America was still high though many students have been showing a keen interest in taking up admission in Germany.
As per an estimate, out of 7 lakh international students who take up admission in USA every year, 1 lakh were from India. About 35,000 students take up admission in Great Britain and Australia while just about 3,500 get admission in Germany, though the numbers mean that only the best of the lot get an opportunity to get full fees concession in public funded German Universities.
The USA was still the top most desired destination since it has been offering excellent education, maximum financial aid, on-campus and off-campus work opportunities and conversion of F1 visa to H1 visa.
Taking the students on a tour of the preparatory time line, Mr. Joseph warned the students about the baggage of backlogs. ``The number of attempts for clearing the backlogs are counted and this may count against your chances,’’ he quipped.
In the same breadth, he cautioned the students to look for accredited Universities and not get fooled by bogus claims.
Apart from GPA scores, the letter of recommendation from professors, statement of purpose and financial statement were vital to secure admission into reputed Universities.
Chancellor of University, Lavu Rathaiah, pointed out that 20-30 per cent of students should opt for higher education as it opens new avenues for learning.
