Students’ talent to the fore at dance contest

Students got a rare opportunity to display their dancing talent at a group dance competitions conducted by the Rotary Club of Vijayawada Mid-Town and Inner Wheel Club Mid-town.

Students from various colleges in the city gathered at the Siddhartha Auditorium on Saturday in colourful attires and equipped with various props to battle it out on stage. The programme conducted as a part of the series of events being conducted under “Generation Yuva-2012” had participation from over 20 colleges and schools like Loyola, Maris Stella, Nalanda, P.V.P. Siddhartha Institute of Technology etc.

Students were asked to perform any concept of their liking in groups of four to 10 people. There were no specific guidelines except for the rule that the performance should last between three and seven minutes .

There was no participation fee of any sort as this programme was conducted with the sole intention of bringing out the talent in students, said Inner Wheel Club of Vijayawada Mid-town president B. Shailaja.

The dance performances were judged by renowned master Naga Rani and Srinivas. The team from St. John’s School won the first place in this competition and got the prize money of Rs.10, 000. The patriotic theme dance by Nalanda Degree College team won them the second prize worth Rs.5,000 while the teams from V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College and Sarada College won consolation prizes of Rs.1,116 each.
