Students of RVR & JC College of Engineering brought forth their innovative spirit during a scientific and technical exhibition held on Monday to mark Engineers Day celebrations.

An Arch Bridge designed by final year student of Civil Engineering Department, Alakananda, was an example, where she designed a prototype of an arch bridge between two mountain ridges. With the two ends of bridge resting firmly on abutments on either side, the bridge is shaped as a curved arch.

“Load exerted on the arch bridge is transferred in blocks to abutments and vice versa making the arch bridges one of the safest bridges,’’ said Alakananda.

The model is part of the exhibit on types of bridges by the Civil Engineering Department.

Asif, a student of Mechanical Engineering, designed a hydraulic powered JCB. Students showed their innovative streak in designing prototype of green buildings, wind and solar powered skyscrapers.

Dean of Academic Affairs and HoD of Mechanical Engineering Department, Ravindra Kommineni said that about 120 models were displayed by various departments.

The Chemical Engineering Department students designed models on, “DNA Technology in forensic Science”, “Removal of rust using Electrolysis”, “Electricity from Salt Water.”

The CSE and ECE Department designed models on, “Vision through Taste of Light”, “Brain Computer Interfacing, “Line follower Robo”, “Public Utility Systems.”

IT students designed “Cloud Computing”, “Google Glasses,’’ etc. The exhibition would end on Tuesday. “We appeal to school managements to make use of the opportunity and send their students to the exhibition,” said Dr. Ravindra.
