Indian patriotic fervour was visible in the Indian attire created by students of Samana Institute of Fashion Technology during the 65th Independence Day celebrations on their institute premises on Monday.
“We consider that senior citizens are the ones who truly deserve this occasion to be celebrated with,” said SIFT Founder and CEO Samana Musavi. She opined that they were the people who saw the country under British Rule and know the true difference.
The institute invited 20 senior citizens of an old age home -- Senior Citizen Forum, at Kanuru. The students of the institute dressed in their own creations in pure white Indian attire (khadi) expressed their awe and love for the country through a dance.
They collected donations from among members of the institution to donate some goodies to the inmates of the old age home and orphans. “We donated clothes to them,” said Joshua Paul one of the faculty of Fashion Technology, at SIFT. This was one of the many programs SIFT organises as part of its social responsibility even while promoting their designers.
The institute also invited members of the Inner Wheel Club as special guests on the occasion. The students actively participated in the celebration with dance performances and games, in which Inner wheel members also took part. They prepared carry bags decorated with the tricolour, made out of ivory charts and presented the gifts to old age home members to promote the concept of no-plastics.
A batch of students will complete their semester on August 21 and they will exhibit and present their collections and designs that they learnt.
It was an enjoyable day for the students as they had the satisfaction of doing something for the society, while the elders found some quality entertainment. The senior citizens also remembered their days during Independence struggle. The students were appreciated for their creations, which looked very traditional Indian outfits.
