Many students are sandwiched between greedy parents and unhealthy competition among the educational institutions. The death of two students in the city in just two days has created panic among parents and students.

The suspicious deaths—one on the premises of a corporate school—have raised some doubts. The school managements, which are busy attracting students for fresh admissions and in increasing pass percentage, are reportedly trying to hush up the cases.

A 10th standard student K. Sai Charan, 15, of Nellore Ravindra Bharathi School, located at Prajasakthi Nagar in the city, died suspiciously in the school hostel on February 15. The school staff said that the boy hanged himself and handed over the body to his parents, who stay at Guntur.

Contradictory statements

The Child Rights Commission, which visited the school after the incident and inquired into the boy’s death, observed that the institute management, instead of extending first aid to Sai Charan, deliberately delayed taking him to the hospital and later shifted the body to Guntur to prevent any protests on the campus.

Ravindra Bharathi School Dean G. Satyachitra told The Hindu that Sai Charan was in a depressed mood for a couple of days before the incident and was poor in studies. Contradicting the dean’s comments, the boy’s family members said that Sai Charan spoke with them on February 14 evening in a joyful mood and greeted his mother on her birthday. The boy was a meritorious student as per his academic records, they said.

“After the death of Sai Charan, we left the hostel in fear. We don’t know the reason for the death of our classmate, but we are feeling panicky to stay in the hostel,” said a student of Nellore Ravindra Bharathi School.

Suspicious death

In the other incident, the body of P. Anudeep, 14, who was studying in ninth class in Narayana Techno School, Bhavanipuram branch, was found floating in the NTTPS cooling canal at Ibrahimpatnam on February 16.

A resident of Jayapradha Nagar in Guntupalli, Anudeep, left the home for school and did not return. The reason for his death was being probed and the Ibrahimpatnam police registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances, said Circle Inspector D. Chawan.
