Andhra Pradesh had three illustrious engineers who strove for its development in the early years, in Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, K.L. Rao and Sir Arthur Cotton, who should be the role models of every budding engineer, opined engineers at an Engineers’ Day celebrations on Saturday. Jakkampudi Housing Project Manager (DEE) K. Vijaya Kumar said that every student should imbibe concern for society and dedication to work, which would make the place of education a place of reverence. They should not stop there but turn a model for future generations.
The engineers should attempt Civil Services examination and be in a position to dictate terms instead of taking commands from others. He gave examples of three students from different economic strata making it to the top 100 in Civil Services with sheer dedication.
Former Divisional Engineer of South Central Railway Ch. Kumaraswamy, who was felicitated by the college management along with Mr. Vijaya Kumar, said that the engineers should be inquisitive and try to go to the bottom of the problem and find a solution as early as possible so that problems are resolved. He gave the examples of a pier of a railway on a river sinking, for which he had studied the problem for a month to find the exact cause.
College Chairman R. Venkata Rao stressed time management, social welfare outlook and avoiding luxurious life during student life to achieve big goals. He reminded the students about Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’s biography and how he came up in life. College director M.V.N. Sarma spoke.
Prizes given away
Students, who excelled in several competitions were given away prizes at the event. The college principal C. Naga Bhaskar, and Training and Placement officer NV Surendra Babu were present on the occasion.

The Engineer’s Day was celebrated on the Acharya Nagarjuna University campus by the University Engineering College marking the 153rd birth anniversary of ‘Bharat Ratna’ Mokashagundam Visvesvaraya on Saturday.
Vice-Chancellor K. Viyyanna Rao in his address narrated the unique and outstanding contributions made by the celebrated engineer to the egineering discipline, to the state of Karnataka, Constructing Krishnaraja Sagara Dam and Reservoir, Bhadravati Iron and Steel Works, water supply scheme from Siva Sindhu.
He advised the students to take Visvesvaraya as their source of inspiration and become ideal products of the University.
Others who spoke on the occasion include Registrar R.R.L. Kantam, Principal E. Srinivasa Reddy, Dean P. Siddhaiah, P.V. Ramana Rao, OSD Z. Vishnuvardhan, Engineers of the University Krishnam Raju and Venkateswara Rao.
