Stick to labour norms, quarry owners told

July 07, 2011 12:11 pm | Updated 12:11 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The district administration has asked the quarries' owners to implement labour Acts in toto.

Vijayawada Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Venkat Rao held a review meeting with the quarries' owners on Tuesday. On the occasion, he said that the quarries' owners should take necessary steps implement the laws such as inter-state migration Act, contract labour Act, Wages Act, Provident Fund, and ESI. The labour department revises the wages for every six months. The labour employed should be paid according to the revised wages. No worker should be given more than two months salary as advance. The owners should maintain records pertaining to attendance and wages, he said.

Basic amenities like housing, and drinking water should be provided to the workers. Some of the owners have already provided amenities. The remaining owners should understand that July 15 was deadline to fulfil the norms. The quarries owners should inform the officials concerned if they employ more than five migrated persons. The details of the migrated people should be registered with the officials. If any quarry owner was employing more than 5 persons, they should intimate it before July 20. If any quarry owner was found to be violating these rules, his or her licence would be cancelled, he added.
