At last the Municipal Corporation seems to have taken a note of smoke billowing out of the mounds of garbage dumped in Ajitsingh Nagar area. Municipal Commissioner G.S. Panda Das has asked the officials to take steps to put out the smoke emanating from the fire and even suggested hiring dousers to check it.

He visited Ajithsingh Nagar Shri Ram Energy Plant here on Saturday. The local people complained to him that the smoke had made their lives miserable, and urged him to check it immediately. They also wanted to stop dumping of garbage near their locality. Responding to it, the Commissioner said that the Corporation was dumping the garbage in a ‘can’t but’ situation. The problem had aggravated due to the scorching heat, he said.

Acquisition of land for a scientific dumping yard was completed. Steps would be initiated to dump the garbage there. The Corporation has also plans to segregate garbage as part of city championship programme. The garbage problem would be solved in a phased manner, he said.
