Street vendors looking for some smart ways of reaching out to the customers can henceforth count on the just-launched initiative of the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA).
A couple of these glossy carts were on display at the venue of MEPMA project directors’ conference here on Monday.
Project Manager J. Satya Vardhan told The Hindu that beneficiaries of the BC and SC State Cooperative Finance Corporations and other such institutions could apply for carts to MEPMA.
The carts come with a price tag of Rs. 1.50 lakh but they are given on 50 per cent subsidy and bank linkage is provided for the balance towards beneficiary contribution.
The striking features of these elegant – looking carts are locking and lighting (LED) systems besides their steel bodies.
“There was a demand for 100 carts from Kakinada today. We are getting ready to deliver them to enthusiastic vendor / hawkers across the State. It is up to them to seize the opportunity”, he observed.
