State urged to release sub-plan funds

December 23, 2013 12:35 pm | Updated 12:35 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Mala Mahanadu State president G. Chennaiah has demanded that the government should release the sub-plan funds amounting to Rs. 800 crore to Dalits and ensure that the amount is not misused.

Speaking to reporters during a rally taken by Mala Mahanadu activists to mark the death anniversary of their founder president P.V. Rao in the city on Sunday, Mr. Chennaiah said the government should release the funds before the Code of Conduct for general elections come into force.

The government has been negligent in implementing the sub-plan. “Without releasing the funds, what can it do for the welfare of Dalits,” Mr. Chennaiah questioned. He also warned Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana against making statements favouring classification of the Scheduled Castes which, he claimed, was struck down by the Supreme Court.
