State to take up irrigation projects on war footing

Chief Secretary I.Y.R Krishna Rao instructed the authorities to complete the Polavaram right canal works by April next and sort out the court cases to enable the transfer of river water from Godavari basin to Krishna basin through lift irrigation.

During a review meeting here, Mr. Rao said the government would take up major irrigation projects on a war-footing basis. He directed the irrigation authorities to speed up the works for bringing into operation all the major irrigation projects in the State.

He instructed the officials to initiate measures for achieving the full designed water storing capacities of Telugu Ganga, Nippulavagu and SRBC projects by next season. With regard to the Velugonda Project, he wanted the authorities to complete at least one tunnel work as early as possible.

The Chief Secretary also said that the Phase I of Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanti (HNSS) should be completed at the earliest, besides the Totapalli Reservoir should be made completely operational by next season.
