Special Chief Secretary for Youth Services and Sports L.V. Subrahmanyam on Saturday said green playfields would be constructed in every Assembly constituency costing Rs. 2 crores in six months time

“We received proposals from the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) for 52 playfields in the State. We have taken sprucing up 40-odd playfields in various mandals and villages. Preferably if the playfields are in the premises of a school or a college thousands of students can practice and hone their pursuits,” he said.

Mr. Subrahmanyam said playfields would be maintained by local senior sports persons or physical education teachers and they would be considered as growth centres. “Coaches from cities and towns will visit these playfields once in 15 days for coaching.” He said the Director General of Sports Authority of India (SAI) had come out with a proposal to merge the sports training centres of both SAI and SAAP for effective functioning.
