State targets 100 per cent electrification by June

Energy Secretary asks power utilities to get cracking

February 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Energy Secretary Ajay Jain instructed the power utilities to complete electrification of four lakh un-electrified households in remote / tribal (ITDA) areas by the end of June.

At a video-conference on Friday, Mr. Jain said Andhra Pradesh would be achieving the distinction of 100 per cent electrification having become the No. 1 State in different areas of power generation, transmission and distribution.

For the first time, A.P attained power surplus and was able to meet around 150 Million Units (MU) per day of grid demand. Even though the demand was expected to reach 165 MU/day in the coming summer, the utilities were in a comfortable position to cater to the same.

DISCOMs were under the obligation to monitor the power supply situation based on global parameters such as System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) and System Average Interruption Duration index (SAIDI) on a regular basis for reducing the losses to a single digit figure by the end of 2016-17 from the present 10.39 per cent.

Process of certification

Mr. Jain further directed the CMDs of DISCOMs to initiate a process of certification at the section level by Assistant Engineers after completion of 100 per cent household electrification in their jurisdiction and send copies of such certificates duly counter signed by the higher authorities, to the government for follow up.

Union Minister for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal along with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu is likely to dedicate the 800-MW Krishnapatnam thermal power project to the nation soon.

AP-Genco Chairman and Managing Director K. Vijayanand, Energy Advisor K. Ranganatham, AP-Transco Director (Finance) Dinesh Paruchuri and DISCOMs R. Mutyala Raju and H.Y. Dora were among those present.
