Police are on high alert following the Intelligence Bureau’s (IB) warning of a possible Peshawar-like attack in the State.
City Police Commissioner A.B. Venkateswara Rao said strict vigil was being maintained at vulnerable places such as busy junctions and bus and railway stations across the State.
“We are coordinating with the Railway Protection Force and security agencies of various State and Central organisations. Instructions have been given to personnel to keep a watch on parking lots and abandoned vehicles,” Mr. Rao said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Tafseer Iqbal said as part of the general alert, police were also focusing on airports. “We are observing CCTVs installed at junctions, bus and railway stations, besides tracking movement of suspects,” Mr. Iqbal said.
Intelligence sleuths are also coordinating with State and Central Intelligence agencies, Coast Guard, Navy, Marine Police and Army, apart from collecting information about ISI agents and militants who are lodged in various jails, mulakat details and movement of those charged with terror links, said a senior police officer.
Meanwhile, police have thrown a security blanket along the coastline to prevent possible entry of terrorist groups and intruders through the sea route. Vigilance has been stepped up on and off the shore, particularly in fishermen villages.
As a precautionary measure, security has been tightened at government offices and VVIP camp offices.
