The district administration is refurbishing the government guesthouse with better amenities to accommodate senior bureaucrats coming from Hyderabad.
Reports indicate that there’s going to be a flurry of activity in the region immediately after the swearing-in ceremony of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu as the new Chief Minister of the residuary Andhra Pradesh in June.
Since he is likely to spend three days in this region, a camp office-cum-secretariat would be set up between Guntur and Vijayawada for administration purpose. Considering this, said an R & B official, the administration has taken up renovation works with the assistance of Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department at a cost of Rs.49 lakh.
Focus is mainly on laying new flooring and false-ceiling, besides painting of the walls, he said, adding that the works may be completed by this month-end. The guesthouse has 14 air-conditioned suites. “At present, we are refurbishing only the ground floor which includes a dining hall,” he explained.
Senior officials visiting the city would send a requisition to the district Collector’s office which, in turn, would forward it to the guesthouse staff to allocate a suite, he added.
When contacted, Collector M. Raghunandan Rao said renovation works were taken up to ensure better ambience for the officials accompanying the Chief Minister during his visit to the region. “There are no plans to groom the guesthouse into a camp office-cum-secretariat,” he confirmed.
