State bandh on power tariff hike today

April 09, 2013 04:32 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 04:30 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The opposition parties will organise a state bandh against the hike in power tariff and power cut, on Tuesday. All schools have declared a holiday, while cinema theatres have suspended morning and matinee shows.

Shops and establishments have come forward to down their shutters. The Left parties, CPI (M), the CPI and the CPI (ML-New Democracy), called upon the people of the district to make the State bandh a success. They sought the cooperation of people for the State bandh.

This is the second phase of Left parties’ agitation against the power hike and the acute power crisis. As a prelude to it, the Left organised dharna on April 1 at all mandal and district headquarters.

The government’s claim of lessening the burden on the common man by Rs 2,000 crore was shallow as the people were asked to bear the brunt of Rs.6,500 crore which was illogical and unjustified.
