In a ghastly incident, a woman and her daughter were done to death by a man identified as Siva Nagaraju at Mallavalli in Bapulapadu mandal here in the early hours of Thursday.

A. Chandramma (50) and Chinni (33) were sleeping outside their house when Nagaraju attacked them with a sickle, killing them on the spot. By the time neighbours could raise an alarm, he escaped under the cover of darkness.

The sight of the severed heads tied to the doorstep by hair sent shock waves across the village.

The police are investigating into a complaint by the villagers that Nagaraju had been pestering Chinni for some time to marry him and he did not heed their warnings to stay away from the women. Nagaraju has been married and so was Chinni, but her husband died four years ago. This did not prevent him from making sexual advances towards her.

He was given a stern warning on Wednesday night when he went to Chinni’s house. He left only to return a few hours later. The accused was taken into custody.
