St. John’s girl shines in science expo

Pothunuri Laya, a student of St. John’s English Medium High School at Gunadala, bagged a silver medal in the National Children Science Congress organised by the Department of Women and Child Welfare in Chandigarh. Ms. Laya is the only student from the two Telugu-speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to bag the award.

She received the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan recently.

The girl showed her remarkable talent, both at the children’s science congress and the 103rd round of the Indian Science Congress held at Mysore University. Ms. Laya was felicitated at a function in her school, where President of Merrylene Shipping Company Roland Williams, said students should draw inspiration from her. School secretary and correspondent T. Suman Thyagaraj presented her a memento, a gold medal and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. President T. Monica Suman, and faculty members congratulated the girl for her achievement.
