Srinivasa Ramanujam’s pioneering works recalled

Eminent mathematicians explained the contribution of Srinivasa Ramanujam to the subject during the day-long celebrations of the National Year of Mathematics at Andhra Loyola College here on Friday.

They told the mathematics faculty and students about the different methods and recalled the great work done by the Indian mathematician.

Birth anniversary

The college’s Department of Mathematics, in association with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of University of Hyderabad (UoH), organised the celebrations to commemorate the 125 birth anniversary of Ramanujam.

Operations and maintenance chief engineer of Dr. Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station G. Kishore Babu, who was the chief guest, detailed about the production and distribution of electricity.

Prof. V. Kannan from UoH delivered a lecture on ‘Counting Differently’ for Class 10 and Intermediate students. He explained the students about different methods of counting by giving some examples.

Euler’s mathematics

Director of Sahayadri School (Pune) Shailesh Shirali spoke on Snapshots of Euler’s Mathematics for undergraduate students with mathematics as core subject. Leonhard Euler, who was a prolific mathematician, wrote more than 500 books and papers, Mr. Shailesh explained.

About 400 publications of Euler were brought out posthumously, but all his collected works and correspondence are yet to be published.
