Of late, there has been a rise in crime in Krishna district. Most of the crimes are related to real estate with rumours spreading that the capital would be set up between Vijayawada and Guntur.
There was a boom in plot and flat prices and the properties which are under mortgage are leading to disputes. Many vacant lands around the two cities are encroached resulting in filing of civil and criminal cases.
The aggrieved public are meeting officials during ‘Praja Vani’ and ‘Grievances Day’ and are submitting petitions seeking justice.
“We have been receiving several complaints related to encroachments, double registrations, fraud, not vacating the lands and houses even after expiry of agreement and other disputes. Such complaints have doubled for the last three months,” said a police officer.
Apart from other crimes, cases of kidnap for ransom, collecting huge amounts on the pretext of providing jobs and closing of chit fund companies and other fraud cases are on the rise.
The Krishna district police arrested a trickster who duped the public on the pretext of providing jobs in South Central Railway. The accused collected more than Rs.1 crore promising jobs of loco pilots, ticket collectors and guards to the victims, in Indian Railways.
The Vijayawada police have rounded up a nine-member gang, including a few graduates and P.G. students, who plotted to abduct a jeweller from Narsapuram of West Godavari district for ransom.
During investigation, it was revealed that the gang planned to commit more crimes including land settlements, flesh trade and blackmailing the victims.
A few cases of money lenders kidnapping the victims with their associates were reported in the district. Several cases relating to murder for gain and rape and murder were registered in Krishna district in the last few days.
