Specials bring in Rs. 5.88 crore for SCR

SCR operates highest number of special trains in the last three years from Vijayawada and other stations in the division

South Central Railway (SCR) operated the highest number of special trains in the last three years from Vijayawada and other stations in the division in 2013-14. The number stood at 185 as against 56 in 2012-13 and 99 in 2011-12. These special trains fetched the highest revenue of nearly Rs 5.88 crore during the year (2013-14) compared to approximately Rs 1.86 crore in 2012-13 and Rs 2.21 crore in 2011-12.

According to Divisional Railway Manager Pradeep Kumar and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager N.V. Satyanarayana, October 2013 had the highest number of special trains operated during that year at 58. Thirty special trains were operated in January 2014, 20 in December 2013, 14 in May 2013 and 10 each in August and November of the same year. There was a quantum jump in the number of pass-through special trains from 794 in 2012-13 to 1,208 in 2013-14.

Total passenger earnings in 2012-13 accounted for Rs 661 crore compared to the previous year’s Rs 549 crore and Rs 501 crore in 2011-12, Rs 469 crore in 2010-11 and Rs 407 crore in 2009-10.

Mr. Pradeep Kumar has said that the punctuality factor of mail and express trains was 97.80 per cent which was the highest in five years in spite of several number of special and regular trains operated from the station.

Railway Week celebrated

South Central Railway (SCR), Guntur Railway Division, celebrated 59th Railway Week at Rail Mahal in Arundelpet on Saturday. Railway Week is being celebrated in Indian Railways from April 10 to 16, to mark the anniversary of the run of first train in India on April 16, 1853.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) N.K. Prasad, Additional DRM V Chandrasekhara Rao, Senior divisional commercial manager C. Ramakrishna and heads of various departments attended the celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prasad said that Indian Railways started with a single train 160 years ago is a mammoth organisation now with over 14 lakh employees, 64,000 route kilometres, carrying 2.3 crores of passengers daily and transporting over 1 billion tonnes of freight annually.
