The ‘Commissioner's Special Task Force' in the place of the existing Anti-Goonda Squad in the city police started functioning from Monday from the premises of Suryaraopet police station complex.

The need to have a special task force was felt in order to combat organised crime. Commissioner of Police P.S.R. Anjaneyulu took the decision to replace the AGS with task force soon after assuming charge.

The new task force will be strengthened to make it an effective law enforcement agency under the limits of the commissionerate and it will work directly under the supervision of the Commissioner.

“The task force will be dealing with murders, rioting, arson, robberies and serious offences, with a team of an inspector, a sub-inspector, two head-constables and 13 constables. We will strengthen it further to deal with organised and serious offences,” said Mr. Anjaneyulu on Monday. The Commissioner also constituted a ‘cyber crimes cell' to deal with cyber crimes. A five-member team will get training in Hyderabad for the purpose.
