Special status delay: Botcha says it is BJP, TD game plan

May 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The motive behind Bharatiya Janata Party not granting special category status is very obvious. The party is waiting to make electoral gains, says former PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said the BJP announced Rs. 1 lakh crore for Bihar just before the State went for elections. Union Minister Nirmala Sitaraman revealed her concerns for the feelings of people in her State -- Tamil Nadu -- if special category status was granted to Andhra Pradesh. Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu was saying that all States were the same to him though he belonged to Andhra Pradesh.

The TDP was also behaving similarly. Its leaders in the Rajya Sabha instead of supporting AICC president Sonia Gandhi, when she spoke out for special status for Andhra Pradesh, preferred to keep quiet and even belittled her, Mr. Satyanarayana said.

“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been only saying in Telangana that it was because of the TDP that Telangana was created. He was speaking in different voices in different places,” Mr. Satyanarayana remarked. The TDP was trying to gain in other ways through politics. The undue hurry to build a Capital and taking up Pattiseema project pushing Polavaram Project on to the backburner were all part of this.
