It is July and the scorching summer still continues, leaving people, especially farmers in distress. On Sunday, people from different communities conducted special prayers for rains at different places in the city.

While Sree Vijayawada Gujarati Samaj conducted Siddha Chakra Maha Pujan at Gujrati Vidyalaya School in One Town, a large number of Muslims gathered at Sanathnagar Idgah to offer special prayers. The Siddha Chakra Maha Pujan was conducted for rains, peace and prosperity of the society. This is the first time, the Samaj conducted such prayers in the city and it was performed with the blessings of Srimad Vijaya Ajitha Sekhar Suriswarji, who arrived in the city on May 29 and will be staying here for four months.

On Sunday, 51 couples performed special puja, which commenced at 10 a.m. and culminated at 3.30 p.m. All through the puja, the couples did not consume water and food. All this was done for rains and welfare of the society, explained Piyush P. Desai, president of Sree Vijayawada Gujarati Samaj.

Over 600 Muslims residing in Sanathnagar, Autonagar, Ayyappa Nagar and surrounding areas gathered at the Sanathnagar Idgah to perform special prayers. Masjid-E-Raheemiya gave a call to the people for performing special prayers and the 45-minute prayers commenced at 6 a.m.

“Man is becoming greedy and in the process, environment is being neglected. As a result, there is not much of rainfall and people are having tough times due to scorching summers. The prayers were conducted to request the almighty for rains,” said Mohammad Dawood of United Forum for Quranic Studies.
