Latest spell takes the total duration to five hours a day
The Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL) has announced an additional hour of power-cut in Vijayawada. This latest spell takes the total power-cut to five hours a day, including four hours during day time in two spells.
The power-cut timings differ depending upon areas. The timings are 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m for Mutyalampadu, Gandhi Nagar, Chuttugunta, Ring Road, Gunadala, Krishnalanka, Autonagar, Yanamalakuduru, Kanuru and Enikepadu. Power supply will be cut from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. for Eluru Road, Besant Road, Governorpet, Kothapeta, Kaleswara Rao Market, Bandar Road, Gollapudi, RR Nagar, Bhavanipuram, Milk Project, Ajithsingh Nagar and Payakapuram.
The SPDCL is already implementing power-cut from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. In rural areas, a seven-hour power cut is being implemented.
SPDCL Superintending Engineer (SE) B. Mohana Krishna said the additional power-cut was being imposed in view of gap between demand and supply. The additional power-cut would be lifted if power generation at Simhadri and Bhupalpalli improved, he added.
Meanwhile, the CPI city unit said it would organise a demonstration in front of sub station in Gandhi Nagar in protest against power cuts on Saturday.
The CPI City Secretary K. Subba Raju questioned the rationale behind imposing power cuts in Vijayawada while Hyderabad was exempted from the power cuts. The government has been continuing the power cut introduced during sakala janula samme (general strike) a couple of months ago.
The government was increasing the power cut timings since then. The people have no respite from the power cut, he said.
