The BSNL, Krishna region, plans to touch the one million mark on the customer base by March 31, 2013.
In the current year, it has plans to add 90 more Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) to its existing network and also 30 services will be launched in other major towns like Challapalli, Jaggaiahpet, Vuyyuru, Thiruvuru and at the district headquarters Machilipatnam. Every month, 15,000-8,000 customers are being added to the existing customer base.
The BSNL launched mobile services in Vijayawada in 2003 with a customer base of 60,000.
Now with 290 BTSs, the total number of customers has increased to 5.4 lakh. BSNL was the first operator to launch 3G services in the Krishna region in February 2010. 3G services were launched in Vijaywada and Hyderabad simultaneously. Besides Voice and other Value Added Services (VAS) data speeds upto 14.4 Mbps were offered in 3G and 65 towers have been set up to provide 3G services in Vijayawada city.
The BSNL, which was formed on October 1 of 2000 from the Department of Telecom and Department of Telecom Services Operations, has grown in the Krishna region from its initial customer base of 1.65 lakh customers and limited services of landline.
Under its gamut of services, the BSNL Vijayawada provides landline phones, WLL, mobile services, broadband services, Rural Community Phones (RCPs) and wireless broadband in rural areas. Currently, the BSNL Vijayawada has a total subscriber base of 7.3 lakhs covering all 50 mandals and the over 1,000 village panchayats in the district.
All 32 customer service centres (CSCs) are connected with CDR system enabling the customers to request for new services and pay the bills for entire southern states of India.
Of the 32 CSCs, two of them come under Category-I serving at least 1000 customers per day.
These CSCs work in single window mode.
