Solar expo at Indoor Stadium from today

A three-day national solar power and renewable energy expo-2012 will begin at DRR Municipal Indoor Stadium in Vijaywada on Friday.

The expo focuses on solar power and energy efficient products and will provide experimental setting for leaning about energy efficiency, small scale renewable generation and technologies.

At the expo about 50 manufacturers from all over the country will exhibit their products. The NEDCAP provides 30 per cent subsidy on majority of the alternative sources of energy equipment. Vijayawada has been declared as Solar City recently. The city has been chosen as one the 60 cities in the country to be covered under this plan.

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is organising the expo to promote the use of alternative energy sources.

The expo will be open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (June 15 to 17) and seminars on solar energy, competitions for children and students would be some of the attractions with prizes given away.

The Phillips and Efftronics are main sponsors of the Expo-2012.

Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasrathi will kick-start the expo, while District in-charge minister Galla Aruna Kumari will be the chief guest.

Rajya Sabha members K V P Ramachandra Rao and Nandamuri Hari Krishna, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, MLCs Ilapuram Venkaiah and Jelli Wilson, Vijayawada (West) MLA Velampalli Srinivas, Vijayawada (Central) MLA Malladi Vishnu, Vijaawada (East) MLA Yelamanchili Ravi and others will take part in the programme.
