Family members of Sola Ranga Rao, a 30-year-old RTI activist, a resident of Sitarampuram village in the district, had filed various RTI applications seeking information from the mandal parishad development office (MPDO) on the fund sanctioned and utilised for the village's drainage system two years ago. He was found murdered near his house.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Ranga Rao's wife Suguna asserted that her husband was killed because of the RTI application he had filed with a district office. “He was beaten to death. Two years have passed but no one has been arrested. I have taken up work in the fields to feed my children and there is no support from the government,” she said.

Industrialist Koganti Satyam, who was also present at the press conference, said that he gave Rs. 25,000 to the family members as he was very much moved with the injustice meted out to them.
