Some 100 schoolchildren take part in Samaikyandhra rally
Over 100 schoolchildren, with their skates on, went around the city in favour of Samaikyandhra with placards hailing the unity on Friday.
They, with colourful skating outfits, began their 15-km rally from Government Music College and later passed through Pedavalarevu, Eluru Road, SRR & CVR College, Chuttugunta, Seetharamapuram, and Satyanarayanapuram.
“Most of the students are trainees at the skating rink at GVS Sastry Park at Satyanarayanapuram. They used both inline and quad type of skates and drew the attention of the bystanders with their systemic skating amid slogans,” said Vijayawada Roller Skating Association general secretary Murali.
He said students from Narayana, Chaitanya, Delhi Public School, St. John’s Public School, Indian Springs, St. Anns Public School and Nalanda took part in the event.
“They (the skaters) took nearly two hours to cover the distance,” said Krishna District Roller Skating Association secretary Durga Prasad. The rally, however, witnessed non-participation of political parties and its leaders.
“We wanted to keep politics away from the rally and wanted to highlight the mood among the student community on the bifurcation of the State,” Murali added.
