The Kothapet police in association with Central Crime Station (CCS) sleuths arrested a six-member gang allegedly involved in several robberies. In all, 154 grams of gold, 1 kg silver ornaments, a laptop and other material, worth about Rs. 6 lakh, was recovered.

At a joint press conference in Vijayawada on Wednesday, CCS Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) G. Ramakrishna and West Zone ACP S. Raghava Rao said the gang committed six thefts in K.L. Rao Nagar, Wynchpeta, Syndicate Bank Colony, Bheemanavaripeta and Chittinagar areas.

The accused – B. Prem Kumar, Ratnavath Rajesh, K. Santosh alias Ramakishore, P. Kantha Rao, Shaik Bilaljani alias Munna and B. Durga Rao – are all residents of the city. The accused posed as private electricians, conduct ‘recce’ during day hours and strike the locked houses during nights, said Mr. Ramakrishna.

Suspect sheets would be opened against all of them. Prem Kumar and Durga Rao were arrested in similar cases earlier. Police would seek custody of the gang after producing them in court to inquire whether they were involved in any other thefts, said Mr. Raghava Rao.

The team led by Kothapet Circle Inspector P. Venkateswarlu arrested the accused near Milk Project, the ACP added.
