YSR Congress leader Y.S Sharmila will undertake poll campaign in the city on Thursday, party’s city convener S. Jaleel Khan has said. Interacting with the media during a ‘meet-the-press’ programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union Working Journalist (APUWJ) here on Tuesday, he said that Ms. Sharmila would first conduct a road show in the Old Town locality and then proceed to other parts of the city.

Traffic congestion tops agenda

Giving details about the party’s manifesto for the upcoming civic polls, he said that the main focus would be on building more flyovers to reduce the traffic congestion, sorting out the drainage problem, beautification of the canal banks, widening of roads and setting up of a super-speciality hospital and a college in the Old Town area.

Dismissing a question about the ego clash within the party leaders from the three main urban constituencies, he said: “We are in touch with each other on a regular basis and are taking collective decisions.” he said.

Seat sharing

On the minorities being a disappointed lot on the seat allocation for the municipality polls, Mr. Jaleel Khan said that it was not only the minorities, leaders from other communities were also a miffed lot and it was due to the reservation policy implemented by the Congress government.

According to the YSRC leader, the division where presence of the BCs was more, it had been earmarked for a candidate from the open category. And similarly the segments where SCs were the major population, it had been reserved for a BC candidate or for that matter where the dominant population was Muslims, it had been allotted to a SC candidate. “This has created a lot of problem in the allocation of seats,” he explanied.
