Seven passengers died and 25 people suffered injuries when a private travels bus fell in a canal at Mullapadu village on the National Highway in Krishna district during the early hours on Tuesday.

According to villagers, Diwakar travels bus was proceeding from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad and met with an accident when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus hit the road divider before it fell in between two culverts on the highway, in Penuganchiprolu mandal.

The deceased were not yet identified and the injured were rushed to Nandigama Government Hospital, Government General Hospital, Vijayawada, and other private hospitals.

As the bus fell off and was stuck between two culverts, it took about two hours to retrieve the bodies and shift the injured to hospitals. The condition of the injured is stated to be critical, the police said.

The injured passengers said rash driving was the reason for the mishap. Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa and Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas enquired about the mishap and directed the officials to extend medical aid to the victims.
