November 20, 2014 12:18 am | Updated 12:18 am IST - TIRUPATI:

The Central Crime Station (CCS) sleuths on Wednesday nabbed seven persons involved in several two-wheeler thefts and recovered 20 motorcycles, along with few electronic items, from their possession. The worth of recovered property was pegged at Rs.10 lakh.

According to Tirupati Urban Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jatti, the accused T. Sunil Kumar Reddy alias Sudhir Kumar Reddy (21), Sheik Shahrukh (21), Mokkala Teja Reddy (20), Eddula Anil Kumar Reddy (22), Pasupuleti Hari (19), Eddula Babu Reddy (20) and Jellapalli Aditya (20) were nabbed at Ramanujam Palli circle near the 150 Bypass Road. Among them, Eddula Babu Reddy was involved in several cases including murder, bike-thefts and prostitution.

Majority are students

“Investigation revealed that the offenders stole motorcycles from Ongole (1), Renigunta (2), M.R. Palle (1) and Tirupati (16). Majority of them are students pursuing their graduation at various colleges in the surrounding districts. They resorted to this act to sustain their lifestyle,” Mr. Jatti said.

As the motorcycles were sold for a paltry sum, in the order of few thousands, Mr. Jatti urged people to refrain from purchasing such bikes without proper documents. “Such an act will warrant the same punishment for the seller as well as the buyer,” he warned.

He appealed to the parents and college managements to keep a track on the activities of students so as to prevent them from taking a wrong path during their formative years. He said the Police Department would take up awareness programmes to sensitise students on such issues. Tirupati Crime ASP V. Subba Reddy, DSP T.V. Konda Reddy and other officials were present.
