Excise police who seized a huge quantity of liquor from a spinning mill recently have sent the samples to the laboratory to ascertain that whether the stocks were locally made or Indian Made Liquor (IML).
The team led by Guntur Excise Superintendent Yadlapalli Adinarayana Murthy conducted a raid on G.K. Textiles, located between Unnava and Boyapalem on April 26 and seized 24,384 liquor bottles worth around Rs. 20 lakh, which were hidden in the mill.
The police arrested watchmen — Jonnalagadda Kotaiah and Kothapalli Ankama Rao — on the spot. Based on the information provided by them, cases were registered against YSRC Ponnur Assembly candidate Ravi Venkata Ramana and another person Srinivasa Rao from Vijayawada.
Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, Mr. Adinarayana Murthy said the labels on the seized liquor suggested that the brand name was ‘Impact Grain Whisky’, manufactured by the ADS Spirits Private Limited, Jhajjar district, Haryana.
Local manufacturers suspected“However, we suspect that it is cheap liquor and the local manufacturers pasted the labels of the ADS Spirits Private Limited on the bottles. We have sent the samples of the seized material for chemical analysis,” said the Excise Superintendent. “Some illicit liquor brewers use different brand names to market the locally manufactured liquor to get higher price and the same might have occurred in this case,” Mr. Adinarayana Murthy said.
