To bring pressure on BJP-led NDA to concede State’s demand

The Pratyeka Hoda Vibhajana Hameela Sadhana Samithi has decided to stage protest on the national highway here on Thursday (March 22) to pressure the BJP-led NDA government to concede A.P.’s just demand of Special Category Status, said CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna.

Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Mr. Narayana said all the members of the Samithi would stage a rasta roko at Kanakadurga Varadhi between 10 a.m. to 12 noon keeping in view the ongoing Class X examinations.

Assurance to parents

“We assure the parents that we will not cause any hindrance in the morning and also in the afternoon,” he said.

He asked the ruling Telugu Desam Party to support the Samithi’s campaign as any attempt to foil the protest by deploying the police would make it ‘a traitor’ in the eyes of the people.

“We assure the State government that the agitation will be non-violent and we urge people from all walks of life to take part in it.”

Mr. Ramakrishna ridiculed the local BJP leaders’ statement that the Modi government had extended liberal financial assistance to A.P. “The BJP government is afraid of the no-confidence motion as several issues such as the scrapping the Planning Commission and constituting the Niti Aayog, demonetisation, GST and other major decisions will be raised during the debate.”

He said the BJP was hell-bent on curbing the rights of States and that was the reason for its reluctance to grant SCS.

“The BJP is instigating both the TRS and the AIADMK to stall the proceedings to avoid a debate on the no-confidence motion,” he alleged.
