Scribe murdered

A reporter working in a vernacular daily was murdered by unidentified miscreants at Chilakaluripet in the late hours of Tuesday. The reporter, M.V.N Shankar (52), was working for Andhra Prabha . The deceased is survived by his wife, Vijayalakshmi.

Police said that Mr. Shankar was parking his motorcycle in front of his house at 10.30 p.m when unidentified persons beat him up with iron rods. The reporter, who sustained severe head injuries, died in a local hospital. Police said that three persons could have taken part in the attack. While one person was on his motorcycle, two persons attacked Shankar.

Minister for Agriculture P. Pulla Rao condemned the incident and ordered a probe. Journalists under APUWJ took out a rally and staged a sit-in at the police station.
