The schools in the city remained closed following a bandh call given by student organisations demanding the government to improve the condition of schools, here on Wednesday.
Activists of Students Federation of India (SFI), Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and other organisations went around the city to ensure that all the schools remained closed. The SFI, ABVP have been demanding the Government to improve the hostel facilities, release of pending mess charges, hike in mess and cosmetic charges, supply of buckets, clothes and text books.
They also pointed out that the patronage to government schools had declined in the recent past.
There were more than 90 lakh students in 99,459 schools across the state. But, it has come down to 54.77 lakh recently.
They also wanted the government to close 220 schools that have no recognition. Meanwhile, SFI organised a dharna in front of Tummalapalli Kshetrayya Kalakshetram demanding the Government to resolve the student problems. The SFI activists sought alms from the passersby to draw their attention and highlight the plight of students.
