The magical imagination of vibrant young minds was in play at the painting competition for school students organised by the Youth Welfare Department of the district here on Sunday.
Sitting in the open, students tried to capture the beauty of nature on their canvases. Their imagination took wings and new hues blended with the green theme of the competition. Giving expression to their artistry, not only did they sketch the beauty of nature but also gave the message of protecting the green cover through their paintings. A few children painted landscapes, some drew inspiration from nature, while some sketched the festive mood of Sankranti.
The Youth Welfare Department conducted the competitions for schoolchildren to commemorate the 150{+t}{+h} birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. About 100 students actively took part in the competitions and gave vent to their creativity. District Youth welfare officer Velaga Joshi said that the painting competitions were aimed at providing a platform to the children to express themselves.
The competitions of this kind would bring out the hidden talent among them, and encourage their creativity, he said.
Mr. Joshi said that department would conduct competitions in kho-kho, music, dance and other events. Prizes to the winners would be given away at a function in Gannavaram on Tuesday.
Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathy, Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal would hand over the prizes to the winners, he said.
Spoorthi Creative Art School Director G. Srinivas, senior artist Appa Rao and others were present.
