School children join polio eradication campaign

Several students from government and private schools in this coastal town joined hands with the Rotarians in the campaign for polio eradication.

The school kids collected a sum of Rs. 6 lakh from the parents and philanthropists in a short span for the noble cause following a call from the Rotary Club of Tanuku. The amount was handed over to Rotary District Governor Ch. Kishore Kumar at a function here on Thursday and the children involved in the campaign were honoured. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kishore Kumar appreciated the students for their contribution towards the Rotary International Global Challenge of raising US $ 200 million for realisation of the Rotary's dream for total eradication of polio in the world.

The Rotary District Governor informed that the fund raising programme was undertaken in the six districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Vizag, East & West Godavari and Krishna districts which form part of the Rotary International District 3020.

He also praised Rotary Club of Tanuku for raising the highest amount of Rs. 6 lakhs in these six revenue districts. The Rotary Club of Tanuku president Ch. Prasad Chowdary was in the chair.
