SC panel seeks report on ‘harassment’ of police officer

July 14, 2014 10:36 pm | Updated 10:37 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has asked the State government to submit a report on the alleged harassment meted out to Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP), Vijayawada Division, Ch. Syam Prasad Rao, by his superior officer. The Commission asked the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to report facts on the allegations.

Mr. Syam Prasad, who approached the Commission, complained that Additional Director General of Police D. Boobati Babu recently transferred him without following the procedures, but the orders had been stayed by Central Administrative Tribunal.

Mr. Syam Prasad alleged that Mr. Boobati Babu, taking it as a grudge, removed security personnel, vehicles, drivers and sweepers in the government quarter provided by the South Central Railway, to him.

“There is a threat to my life from criminals as I detected several cases in the last few years in various districts. My family is living in constant fear as there is no security for the house, which has wireless sets and other equipment,” said Mr. Syam Prasad.

“The Additional DG is harassing me as I belong to the SC community and I am forced to live in dirty conditions,” he alleged and sought the SC Commission to do justice to him.

Following the representation, the Commission asked the government to submit a report on the case.
