Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Managing Director Bangara Raju on Tuesday felicitated the Guntur-based powerlifter B. Chandrika, who won four gold medals in the 84 kg category of the Commonwealth powerlifting championship held at Potchefstroom in South Africa recently.
Diminutive Chandirka hauled a 387.5 kg to win the overall gold along with individual gold medals in the squat, bench press and dead lift. “I am thankful to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for granting ₹4. 5 lakh prior to my participation in the tournament, which helped me train better to win medals,” said the powerlifter.
Along with Chandrika, young Sai Revathy performed well in the championship by winning three gold medals in the 63kg category.
SAAP chief said that both the powerlifters will be suitably rewarded for their exploits as per the new sports policy. SAAP officer-on-special duty P. Ramakrishna, Andhra Pradesh Powerlifting Association secretary S. Koteswara Rao and others were present.
