August 06, 2013 02:51 pm | Updated 02:51 pm IST - ONGOLE:

With the reservoirs across river Krishna fast getting filled up, the CPI(M)-led Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangam State Vice-President S.Rama Rao urged the Government to release water to the Nagarjunasagar command area.

Addressing the APRS District Committee meeting chaired by its district vice-president K.Ramakoteswara Rao at the Comrade L.B. Gangadhara Rao Bhavan here, he said the Nagarajunasagar reservoir was expected to surplus during the week. No time should be lost to fill irrigation and drinking water tanks in Prakasam district and other districts under the Nagarjunasagar command area, he emphasised.

He found fault with the Union and State Governments for leaving in the lurch the Bengal gram ryots who had been saddled with 21 lakh quintals of the produce due to faulty exim policy and lack of a market intervention strategy.

The meeting adopted a resolution urging the Centre and the State government to intervene in the market and lift the unsold stock with farmers by providing a reasonable price of Rs 5,000 per quintal, its district secretary D.Gopinath said.
